Me in Paris wearing my the first self-knit sweater and a Noro seed stitch scarf Posted by Hello

In the beginning

There was yarn. But no nearly as much as there is now. I started knitting a little over a year ago using some crappy acrylic yarn I'd bought to crochet a throw. I tired of said throw (a gigantic hot pad, my mother called it) and had stashed it deep in the bowels of my closet. It came in handy to make that first swatch.

And now I own so much yarn and have so much on my wish list, I could outfit a small planet of people with socks and hats.

This blog is an attempt to document the socks and hats (and other goodies) I make for my even smaller household, family and circle of friends. I'm also starting this blog as part of a Masters thesis I'm writing for an English degree. That thesis explores the various elements that inform our intellect and our ability to read and write in the culture in which we live. I've always been a writer; now I'm a knitter, too. This blog should marry the two (or at least get them in the same house).
